STMicroelectronics (ST) commissioned Wordsworks copywriting to provide editing and proofreading support for its annual sustainability report.

ST is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of semiconductors. It is headquartered in Switzerland and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, on the Euronext Paris in Paris and on the Borsa Italiana in Milan.

In 2019, ST asked Wordsworks copywriting in Manchester to pitch to draft the content for its annual sustainability report. We put a proposal together, highlighting our experience and expertise in developing content for sustainability and CSR reports.

After getting through round one of the selection process, we attended an interview with a couple of senior stakeholders, before being appointed ST’s copywriting partner for the project.

Unlike some of the reports we work on, ST’s sustainability report did not require any interviews. Instead, the relevant internal teams wrote a first draft of the content for each of the 34 chapters.

As ST is a multinational company, with much of the management, administration and support functions split between France and Switzerland, most if not all the internal authors were not native English speakers. The quality and consistency of the first drafts therefore varied enormously. Our role was to edit, refine and improve the supplied text to ensure the quality, clarity and style of the writing was consistent throughout, and adhered to the company’s in-house style guide.

The report was very well received on its publication, to the extent that we have partnered with ST on every edition of the report since 2019.
