Wordsworks
Liberty is an advocacy group and membership organisation based in the UK, which challenges unjust laws, protects civil liberties and promotes human rights.
Wordsworks copywriting began working with Liberty in 2019, having been referred to them by a contact who knew of our previous copywriting work with the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
Given the nature of Liberty’s work, there is often a strong legal element. So our considerable experience copywriting for and about law firms and the law, including as journalists writing for the legal sector’s leading publications, makes us ideally placed to support Liberty with its communications activities.
Copywriting projects we have worked on include new web copy, pages for its ‘advice hub’ focusing on specific aspects of the law and civil liberties, opinion pieces and stakeholder publications.
For most of these, Liberty provided an initial draft that was written in house, often by someone from its policy or legal advice teams. The challenge was to ensure the information was presented clearly and concisely, in language that could be easily understood by the public, while at the same time retaining the subtle legal nuances and interpretations that are vital to this type of material.
We edited, rewrote, refined, distilled, condensed and sometimes pummelled the supplied information to ensure it achieved these objectives.
